Jones Homes supports children’s ‘Look for a Book’ trail in Thorpe Hesley

Jones Homes donated 50 books to a ‘Look for a Book’ initiative in Thorpe Hesley which was designed to engage children in reading over the school holidays.

Jacki Habershon, who runs The Little Book Barn, reached out to the housebuilder explaining that she was running the event. Jacki hid well-known Usborne children’s books around the village, which is near Rotherham.

Children could seek out the books, and once they had read them, they would hide them again around the village for others to enjoy.

Jacki said: “The Look for a Book event in Thorpe Hesley has been a real success. Lots of parents and their children have commented on what a great initiative it has been and how much they enjoyed it.

“In total, I managed to raise sponsorship for 200 books to be hidden around the village and Jones Homes’ contribution was a big part of helping to get all those books into the hands of local children and their families.”

Jones Homes is currently building new homes at Wentworth View in Thorpe Hesley. Work began on the homes in 2020 and almost 50 families have now moved in. As part of its planning agreement for Wentworth View, Jones Homes provided starter homes for first-time buyers and invested more than £1m in infrastructure through Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy contributions.

Jayne Swift, Sales and Marketing Director for Jones Homes Yorkshire, said: “We were delighted to be able to help Jacki with her children’s book event. It is so important to encourage young children to continue reading, even when not at school.

“We have many children on the development at Wentworth View who may have found some of the books to enjoy for themselves. This type of creativity really engages communities. Jacki’s commitment made the event possible and we were only too pleased to offer our support.”
