The Development & Local Area
Westwood Grange, a delightful development of 19 one and two-bedroom apartments and three, four and five-bedroom houses, is located in the charming village of Lenham which nestles at the foot of the North Kent Downs, midway between Maidstone and Ashford.

The village, mentioned in the Domesday Book has a market square dating back to 1088 but archaeological evidence suggests the parish has been inhabited since the Iron Age.  In 1946, the grave of a Saxon warrior was uncovered beneath the floor of the chemist’s shop.  The parish church of St Mary, built in Saxon times, was rebuilt in the 14th century following extensive fire damage.

Lenham offers a good selection of shops, a library, new community hall and medical centre and the picturesque village square is home to two pubs, two restaurants and a tea shop.  On the second Sunday of each month, the Farmers’ Market sells local produce, plants, crafts and gifts.  The local primary school consistently achieves good OFSTED reports and the secondary school, Swadelands, is a centre for sporting excellence.

On the main Maidstone-East to London Victoria line, Lenham railway station provides frequent trains to London with a journey time of approximately 1¼ hours.  The rail journey to either Maidstone or Ashford International station takes about 15 minutes from Lenham.

The surrounding countryside provides wonderful walks; the Stour Valley Walk starts here heading onto Ashford and Canterbury whilst the Pilgrims’ Way/North Downs Way passes just north of the village, high up on the Downs.   Nearby Maidstone has plenty to offer including a bustling shopping centre, Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre with its multiplex cinema, bars, restaurants and nightlife and the Millennium River Park which stretches for 10 km along the river to Allingham Lock.  Visit Leeds Castle or Maidstone Museum, go on a canoe safari, play pitch and putt in Mote Park, swim at Maidstone Leisure Centre or play tennis in Clare Park; the choice is yours!
