Living at The Kingfishers allows residents to enjoy the best of both worlds – just minutes from the attractions and amenities of a thriving and historic tourist market town, the development also offers peace and tranquillity from its semi-rural environment.
THE SURROUNDING AREA
Founded by the Romans as Salinae , meaning ‘the salt workings', Middlewich was one of their most important sites for salt production, and to this day salt manufacturing has remained one of Middlewich's principal employers. It is one of several ‘wich' towns in Cheshire , a word used to denote brine springs or wells. The town is mentioned in the Domesday book and by the 13th century there were approximately 100 ‘wich houses' packed around the town's two brine pits.
Today Middlewich is a thriving community 2½ miles from junction 18 of the M6 and on main routes north to Northwich, west to Winsford, east to Congleton and south to Sandbach, Crewe and Nantwich. Manchester International Airport is just twenty miles away and rail services are available at nearby Sandbach and Northwich. The town has a fine selection of shops, bars and restaurants, which are further complemented by the choice in the towns and villages nearby. Unlike other local towns Middlewich centre has not been re-modelled as a new shopping area, so many of the original shops remain.
It is home to the celebrated Folk & Boat Festival, one of several notable events staged by the townsfolk. In recent years Roman and Norman Festivals have also helped boost tourism into the town. Apart from the Trent & Mersey Canal and Shropshire Union Canal , other local attractions include the 12 th Century church of St Michaels and All Angels, Jodrell Bank radio telescope and the Salt Museum in Northwich.
Middlewich offers a good range of schools for children of all ages including several nursery and primary schools and Middlewich High School for older pupils. Mid-Cheshire College is one of several in Cheshire to offer Further Education opportunities and Manchester Metropolitan University has two campuses in Crewe and Alsager.
